JVA Partners with Positive Coaching Alliance - Thursday, February 02, 2012

Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a national nonprofit organization committed to providing all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience. Watch this short video to learn how PCA supports youth to perform better on and off the field. We want to help JVA member clubs maintain a positive relationship with your parents and participants this club season.  As part of our partnership with PCA, club directors can select parents from your club to participate in PCA's free online parent workshops, OR club directors can choose to participate and then share the information with your parents, it's your choice! 

To register you or any of your club parents for the parent workshop send an email to Briana Schunzel at briana.schunzel@jvavolleyball.org with the following information:

1.  Club Name
2.  Parent/coach for workshop
3.  Parents’/Coach's email address

The recipient will then receive an email with the online voucher code and information to complete registration to receive the FREE online workshop.

JVA Announces February Club of the Month Winner - Thursday, February 02, 2012

Our February award winning club opened its doors at the local park in October of 2010 and became Austin’s first beach volleyball club.  Currently in its second season and already making plans to build its own facility in Cedar Park, Texas, BoomTown ABVC knows how hard its players need to train to catch up to the juniors in the bigger volleyball states.

Location: Reliant Center (Houston, TX) 
Who: Uncommitted and unsigned girls' volleyball players who will graduate from high school in 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 as well as junior college players.

Houston Juniors is JVA January Club of the Month - Monday, January 02, 2012

Our January award winning club has established itself as a volleyball force in the Houston area, as well as nationally.  Houston Juniors was founded in 1985, and in 2011 it combined with Texas Pride to form the new Houston Juniors Volleyball Club under the direction of Stephanie Rhodes (Club Director), Jeff Ham (Facility/Head Training Director), Kara Pratt (Recruiting and League Director) and Tara Cross-Battle (Head Training Director/Camp & Clinic Director).

JVA 2011 Annual Meeting Re-Cap - Thursday, December 22, 2011

The JVA held it's annual meeting on Friday, December 16th at the AVCA Convention in San Antonio.  Many exciting things happening this year and New President Bill Milborn from Club Fusion and Executive Director Jenny Hahn presented an overview of 2011, as well as news for the upcoming year. Kathy DeBoer, Executive Director of the AVCA, held the floor with a powerful speech on why the JVA needs to be the spokesperson for hte junior membership.

Get your video shoes on... because we are excited to launch our JVA Coach to Coach Video of the Week in January!  Every Tuesday throughout the club season JVA will feature a short video from one of our JVA member clubs educating our members on important junior related topics. We invite you to showcase YOUR CLUB to the volleyball community and share what you are doing successfully with your peers.  Videos will range from a variety of topics to help you run a successful junior volleyball practice, program, meeting, and club.  If you are interested in submitting a video please contact Briana Schunzel to learn more.  We have plenty of ideas to help you get started, now we want to line-up our clubs who are ready to shoot some footage and share!

Board Nominations To Take Place at Annual Meeting - Tuesday, December 13, 2011

No nominations were received from the membership for the two JVA Board positions that are up for election, other than Tim Hardt and John Sample, who currently hold the positions.  Our by-laws state that the “election  of the board may either be held at the Annual Convention of the organization or by mail or email ballot in accordance with procedures established and approved by the board.  The board has approved to hold this year’s election at the JVA Annual Meeting on Friday, December 16th, 9:00 a.m.  Nominations will be taken from the floor at that time.  Members must be present to vote, no proxies will be allowed.

 
Sports Performance Wins JVA December Club of the Month - Monday, December 05, 2011

For those who have been in and around the club volleyball scene, the name “Sports Performance” is to club volleyball like Nike is to sports apparel. Founded in 1981 by Rick Butler, this Chicago based volleyball club has set the precedent for clubs not only in the U.S., but internationally as well.  In its first year, SPVB began with two teams, and today the club has 60 girls’ teams and 10 boys’ teams, and also has partner relationships with other clubs to bring the total to approximately 100 teams under the SPVB umbrella.

JVA November Club of the Month - Tuesday, November 01, 2011

Congratulations to Delaware Juniors Volleyball Club currently in its 29th year of operation. The club was originally founded by University of Delaware Volleyball Coach and AVCA member Barbara Viera. When the club was formed in 1983, junior volleyball was practically nonexistent in the northeast region, and today Delaware Juniors is the largest club in the state and one of the largest in the Chesapeake Region. The recent growth from 8 teams in 2006 to 25 teams in 2011 can be accounted for by the decision to build from the grassroots, and to expand beyond the club’s normal geographic area.  One general key for growth is to expand beyond the comfort level, so that is exactly what the leaders of Delaware Juniors did.

JVA's Blog Targets How to Start A New Club - Tuesday, September 27, 2011

As an organization committed to promoting the growth of junior volleyball and specifically focused on the needs of junior clubs, JVA realizes there is a need for more education on starting a junior volleyball club.  That is why JVA's new Blog "Net Diary: A Volleyball Club's Start-Up Story" is entirely designed to share the personal experience of Chris Beerman in his first year as Club Director of Lexington United Volleyball.  Through a series of posts, Chris depicts his experience as Club Director of a brand new volleyball club in hopes that it may educate others looking to do the same, while sparking dialogue to share ideas, challenges, and successes along the way.

JVA Adds Briana (Adamovsky) Schunzel to Staff - Tuesday, July 26, 2011

The JVA is pleased to announce the hiring of Briana (Adamovsky) Schunzel as the newest member of the organization's staff. Schunzel will serve as the JVA's part-time Social Media & Marketing Assistant.  Allocated proceeds from the 2011 JVA World Challenge are being used to fund the newly created position.

JVA Held Mid-Year Meeting - Tuesday, June 28, 2011

JVA held their 2011 Midyear Meeting last week in Orlando in conjunction with the AAU National Championships.  One of the highlights of the meeting was the Financial Report by Treasurer, Bill Milborn.  Bill reported that due to the financial success of the 2011 JVA World Challenge Championships Presented by Rox Volleyball, JVA will be providing their educational programs to all members for free this coming season!
